The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Social Welfare Government of Sierra Leone and Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, convened key #NGOs in a high-level coordination and partnership meeting aimed at strengthening #servicedelivery nationwide.

The meeting took place recently at the Ministryโ€™s Conference Hall, New England Ville in #Freetown.

In her welcome address, ๐Œ๐ซ๐ฌ. ๐Œ๐ž๐ฅ๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐Š๐š๐ซ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฒ – ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐’๐จ๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐–๐ž๐ฅ๐Ÿ๐š๐ซ๐ž underscored that her ministry remains at the forefront of addressing #vulnerability and supporting the less privileged and most disadvantaged groups in Sierra Leone. She emphasised that the ministryโ€™s mandate is extensive and cannot be achieved in isolation, noting that effective collaboration, coordination, and resource pooling are essential to avoid duplication, minimise waste, and ensure that no citizen is left behind. She commended the Minister of Planning and her team for successfully hosting the recent NGO Week and for initiating this timely engagement aimed at restoring structured coordination within the sector.

Speaking at the event, the Director of NGO Affairs, Mr. Eric Massalay, reaffirmed the governmentโ€™s commitment to strengthening relationships between NGOs and their respective line ministries. He highlighted the importance of sustainability through well-structured coordination mechanisms at both district and national levels, including NGO coordination platforms, sectoral engagements, and District Development Coordination frameworks. According to him, while district-level coordination has shown promising results, there is an urgent need to reinforce collaboration at the national level to ensure that policies, decisions, and development priorities effectively cascade to local implementation. He stressed that NGOs must align their programmes with national development priorities and complement government efforts, rather than operate in isolation, to guarantee impactful and efficient use of limited resources.

In her address, the Honourable Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Mrs. Kenyeh Barley, stated that the meeting falls within the broader framework of Sierra Leoneโ€™s Medium-Term National Development Plan and the governmentโ€™s โ€œBig Fiveโ€ transformative agenda. She emphasised that economic development ultimately seeks to improve the lives of citizens, particularly the most vulnerable, making social welfare central to national progress. The Minister called for stronger service-level agreements between NGOs and the ministry to formalise partnerships and enhance accountability. While commending the Ministry of Social Welfare for its achievements despite limited resources, she urged all partners to foster stronger, results-driven collaborations that align with national priorities and accelerate inclusive service delivery across Sierra Leone.
